WINSTON-SALEM, NC (MARCH 9, 2018) —Ben C. Sutton, Jr., founder and Chairman of Teall Sports & Entertainment, who is widely recognized as one of the most accomplished entrepreneurs and business leaders in the sports and entertainment industry, has been appointed to the board of directors of the White House Historical Association. Teall Sports & Entertainment is a private equity company based in Winston-Salem, NC, Atlanta, GA, and San Francisco, CA and has an investment portfolio including Dyehard Fan Supply, Riddle & Bloom, Sunshine Beverages, and Tailgate Guys.
Founded in 1961, the White House Historical Association is a private, non-profit organization with a mission to enhance the public’s understanding, appreciation, and enjoyment of the White House. It was created at the recommendation of the National Park Service and with the support of First Lady Jacqueline Kennedy.
The White House Historical Association works with the National Park Service, the Curator of the White House, the White House Chief Usher, and the First Family in the care, conservation, and interpretation of the historic state rooms of the White House Executive Residence and larger White House Complex. The Association works with the Committee for the Preservation of the White House to identify and acquire fine and decorative arts in keeping with the historical integrity of the White House.
“I am incredibly honored to join the board of the White House Historical Association,” Sutton said. “I’ve been fascinated by American history and the political process since I was a child and look forward to being an active part of the Association. It is a logical extension of my work on behalf of the Reagan Presidential Foundation, which I am also privileged to serve as trustee.”
The White House Historical Association publishes the official White House guide and operates a book store in the White House Visitor Center, which is managed by the National Park Service. The Association also produces and publishes books and videos on the history, architecture, and decorative arts of the White House as well as the semi-annual journal “White House History.” Thousands of schools, universities, and libraries have received free educational materials about the White House donated by the Association. The Association also sponsors research and scholarship, a lecture series, seminars, and exhibitions on White House history. In addition, it operates the National Center for White House History at Decatur House.
Since 1981, the Association has commissioned the annual White House Christmas Ornament honoring a historic president. The 2017 ornament honored President Franklin D. Roosevelt and his remarkable journey to restore the faith of the American people. The most recent book published by the Association is William Seale’s “A White House of Stone.”
All proceeds from the sale of the Association’s books and products are used to fund the acquisition of historic furnishings and artwork for the permanent White House collection, assist in the preservation of public rooms, and further its educational mission. Additional funding for the White House Historical Association comes from private and corporate contributions.
